Pardon the self-plug, but I’m terribly proud of this book.  Over 400 footnotes to really go into all sorts of details.  Like the location of Styria, the meaning of the name “Karnstein,” how Austria was seen in 1872 (that changes how one perceives the story btw), tiny details that reveals more was going on that Laura admitted to…and so on.  The illustrations are gorgeous as well.
